VC ARCHIVES PRESERVATION INTERN

The Getty Marrow Preservation Intern will work on the digitization and cataloguing of archival contents from the VC Archives of over 750,000 photographic images, more than 3,000 moving image titles, and 1,000 hours of oral histories that reflect Asian Pacific histories, movements, and experiences. Under the supervision of the Archives Operations Manager, the Intern would work on the preservation of VC Archival materials in preparation for archives-based exhibitions and events. The position will be IN-PERSON, 40 hours per week for the duration of ten (10) consecutive weeks.

APPLICANTS MUST:

  • Be a member of a group underrepresented in careers related to art conservation, museums, and/or visual arts organizations, which can include groups defined by – among other things – socioeconomic status, cultural background, physical or other disability, geographical origin and/or any life experiences that add diverse and underrepresented perspectives.

  • Be currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate in either a bachelor’s degree program or an associate’s degree program. Students must have completed at least one semester or two quarters of college by June. Students who graduated the semester or quarter immediately before the internship begins are also eligible. (Students who are enrolled in a second BA or BS program are not eligible.)

  • Attend college in or be a permanent resident of LA County; and

  • Be a United States citizen or permanent resident (non-citizen authorized to live and work in the United States on a permanent basis; also known as a "green card" holder). Students with DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival) status valid through the internship period are also eligible.

VC ARCHIVES EXHIBITION INTERN

The Getty Marrow Exhibition Intern will work on the preservation and digitization of archival contents from the VC Archives of over 750,000 photographic images, more than 3,000 moving image titles, and 1,000 hours of oral histories that reflect Asian Pacific histories, movements, and experiences. Under the supervision of the Executive Director the Intern will work on the exhibition of specific VC Archival materials and projects, such as FIRST STREET NORTH Open, VC Archives Website, Stand Up for Justice, and other VC Archives-related materials in our continued effort to engage and educate our communities. The position will be IN-PERSON 40 hours per week for the duration of ten (10) consecutive weeks.

ARTISTIC PROGRAMS INTERN

The Artistic Programs Intern will support the administration and coordination of VC’s artist exhibition and development programs such as the annual VC Film Fest, the Armed With a Camera Fellowship, and Digital Histories.  Under the supervision of the Executive Director, and working closely with other VC Staff and interns, the Artistic Programs Intern will assist with wrap up activities for the VC Film Fest (May 2024). The Intern will also assist in the administrative and coordinative duties for the Armed With a Camera Fellowship for Emerging Media Artists and the Digital Histories media production and storytelling program for older adults.  The position will work approximately 20 to 24 hours a week from June through October.

QUALIFICATIONS
Visual Communications is seeking an Artistic Programs Intern with excellent organizational skills, detail oriented, strong written and oral communication skills, ability to work independently and effectively given a limited time frame, and ability to balance multiple tasks. Looking for candidates with a passion for media arts and to grow and share their knowledge to advance the organization.
